Blog #4

My lesson is geared towards first graders. We would be talking about emotions. I will introduce this lesson with pictures of myself and asking them if they can guess how I am feeling. For some of the more complex emotions like excited, they may say things like happy instead. This lesson will give them an opportunity to become familiar with these different emotions and notice these emotions in social situations. So, I will introduce with the pictures and then as a test of their comprehension, I will produce a worksheet with the emotions and they have to draw a picture of what that emotion looks like. The emotions I am displaying in my pictures are sad, happy, excited, unsure and tired. I think this would help the students understand feelings and emotions.

Thats a great idea! I never thought about a lesson like that. It's very simple to create, yet important in the curriculum of young children. Can you think of any other ideas you would incorporate into this activity? There's so much you can do with a topic like this!

I really like your lesson plan idea because emotions are something that people will deal with on a daily basis for the rest of their life. Teaching children that people may feel different on different days is very useful and effective to everyone. One other thing that you might want to incorporate within your lesson is teaching the children what they should do if a friend or family member is feeling a certain emotion. For example, if a child’s best friend is feeling sad one day, you might teach the children to as their friend if they are alright and teach them to give their friend a hug when they might be feeling down. Overall, this is a great lesson plan! Good Job!

I really like the topic of your lesson. Emotions are great things to talk about with young children and I think it is great to provide them with visuals about emotions. I think this lesson would lead to some great discussions. I think this type of lesson is important for children, in order to make them caring and empathetic individuals. I feel that you could also do a journal entry on emotions. This would be a great way to tie writing and grammar into your lesson.

I really like your idea! This lesson seems very creative and you can expand a lot on it. By having the children draw picture they are able to engage in the lesson. I think that this lesson is very age appropriate. I think children would really enjoy this lesson!!! GREAT JOB!!
