There are many non-computer based technologies available for use in the classroom. One particular technology I ran across that interests me is the Coin-U-Lator. It is a handheld device that helps students learn numerical concepts like making change.
Instead of standard numbers on a regular calculator, this device uses realistic coin buttons and a dollar bill. It does addition and subtraction. It also has a game option that lets students show off their money skills. This device is only $26, so it's very affordable. It can easily be used in the classroom during math. This is something that a classroom could do without, I just think it's a neat device and would be fun way for the children to learn!

Mary,
I have never heard of this type of technology, but it sounds like a very fun tool especially for students who have trouble with math. A lot of students get discouraged when working with math because it is not fun to them or they loose confidence, well this sounds like it would help these kids, and is a neat way of learning! Counting coins and money is a very important thing to know because students will have to know it throughout their lives, so why not let them learn it in a fun way!
